A-Z Glossary

time

a.m. and p.m., figures

a.m. and p.m. are lowercase with periods.

Figures: Use figures followed by a.m. or p.m. to denote precise time, except for noon and midnight. It is not
necessary to use :00. The picnic starts at 4:30 p.m. Otherwise, spell out. Geoff never gets home before six.

Always use figures with a.m. and p.m. When using a.m. and p.m., never use morning, evening, or o’clock. Roger
woke up at 6 o’clock in the morning. John’s appointment is at 11 a.m.

See midnight, noon, and AP.
